Biography

Marvin W. Masters was born and raised in Greenbrier, West Virginia. Mr. Masters received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from West Virginia University in 1967 and his law degree from West Virginia University in 1972. He founded The Masters Law Firm, l.c. in 1974 to fight for the injured and to provide a voice for fair and just compensation.  

He is experienced in litigating serious personal injury, car accidents, trucking accidents, medical malpractice, wrongful death, and property damage cases, as well as product liability cases, including drug litigation. With over 50 years of experience practicing as a trial attorney, Mr. Masters is licensed and has presented cases in front of the West Virginia Supreme Court and all lower courts as well as the United States Supreme Court.

Mr. Masters is well known and respected in the legal and local communities. He has built a reputation for tackling both big corporations and negligent individuals with the same level of legal vigor and fortitude. His skillful legal practice garnered national attention when Mr. Masters acquired a $ 404 million settlement verdict in a gas royalties’ case, one of the largest settlements in the state of West Virginia. His multi-million-dollar successes awarded him entry into the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, one of the most prestigious groups of trial lawyers in the country. Membership is limited to attorneys who have won million and multi-million-dollar verdicts and settlements. Fewer than 1% of U.S. lawyers hold this distinction.  

In addition, Mr. Masters has been awarded the honor of “Best Lawyers in America” for a consecutive 20 years, has been recognized by Best Lawyers since 2001, Super Lawyers, “Top Litigator” Award, was included in the “Top 100 Trial Lawyer” list by the National Trial Lawyers and was named “2024 Attorney of the Year” by “Top 100 Lawyers”.

The Masters Law Firm, l.c., has received the Martindale-Hubbell Preeminent recognition for the Highest Level of Professional Excellence.

Mr. Masters is a member of the West Virginia State Bar, American Bar Association, American Association for Justice, and The American College of Trial Lawyers. He previously held the title of President for the West Virginia Association for Justice,
